Every year when the Academy Award nominations are announced, a handful of what are ungenerously referred to as snubs inevitably makes for as important a headline as the ones that managed to snag a nod. Over the course of time, these so-called snubs often tend to lose much of the initial impact and may even come to be seen as less a snub than a rare moment of lucidity among Oscar voters.
